What this Zener TVS diode protects and where it fits
The 1N6060A/TR is a Zener-type transient voltage suppressor (TVS) diode from Microchip Technology, rated for 1500W peak pulse power under the 10/1000µs waveform. That 1.5 kW rating means it can clamp a 14.6 A surge to 103 V without self-destructing — the sort of transient you see on 48 V telecom rails or 24 V industrial supply lines that see inductive kickback. The reverse standoff voltage is 64 V, so the diode stays transparent below that rail voltage and only starts conducting when the transient pushes above it. Breakdown is guaranteed at 71.3 V minimum, and clamping is held to 103 V maximum at the full peak pulse current. It is a single bidirectional channel — one device handles both positive and negative surges, which saves board space and avoids the series pair you need with unidirectional Zeners. The DO-13 through-hole package is a metal can with a glass seal; it is robust for high-reliability applications and can be soldered into a PCB or wired point-to-point.
Package and mounting
That extra headroom matters if the diode sits near a hot power supply or in an outdoor enclosure that sees direct sun. The DO-13 metal package helps conduct heat away from the die — the case is the heatsink. Power line protection is not listed as a feature, so this part is intended for signal or low-power supply rails rather than AC mains. The 64 V standoff suits 48 V battery buses (telecom, solar combiner boxes) and 24 V industrial rails with a safety margin.
Sourcing posture and lifecycle status
For BOM planning, this means no last-time-buy pressure and no need to qualify a second source today. As an active Microchip line, the part is sourced through our distribution network and quoted to order.
