Transient protection for a 15V rail — 1500 W in a hermetic DO-13
The 15 V reverse standoff voltage means it sits across a 15 V DC bus and stays out of conduction until a transient pushes the line above 17.1 V typical breakdown. The DO-13 (DO-202AA) axial package is a hermetic glass-sealed can — the same footprint found in MIL-spec and avionics transient suppressors. The through-hole leads handle solder rework and field replacement without the risk of cracking a surface-mount body.
The BOM position does not require a last-time-buy calculation or a pin-compatible substitute search. The hermetic DO-13 package keeps moisture and contaminants out of the die.
Bidirectional clamping — one diode covers both polarity transients
A single 1N6045AE3 handles positive and negative surges because the bidirectional structure clamps both polarities symmetrically. On a 15 V signal or power rail that sees reverse battery or inductive kickback, one device replaces two back-to-back unidirectional TVS diodes. The 1500 W peak pulse rating is specified without power line protection — the diode is intended for low-frequency signal or DC power rails, not AC mains. The 59.5 A peak pulse current at the 10/1000 µs waveform gives enough margin for a 15 V rail in a 28 V aircraft system or a 12 V battery line in a truck.
