Transient suppressor for 7.5 V rails — DO-13 through-hole
The 1N6038A is a Zener-type transient voltage suppressor from Microchip Technology, rated for 1.5 kW peak pulse power at the standard 10/1000 µs waveform. It clamps a 7.5 V nominal rail to 13.4 V maximum under surge, with a breakdown voltage guaranteed between 8.65 V and the clamp level. The DO-13 through-hole package suits point-of-use protection on boards where a soldered-in part is preferred over surface-mount for mechanical robustness.
The 7.5 V reverse standoff voltage means the diode draws negligible leakage below that level — your 7.5 V supply rail sees no loading during normal operation. When a transient exceeds the 8.65 V minimum breakdown, the device starts conducting, clamping the rail to 13.4 V maximum while shunting 112 A of peak pulse current. That 112 A rating at 10/1000 µs is the surge the part can absorb without failing short; for shorter pulses the peak current capability is higher, but the 1.5 kW power rating is the thermal limit you size against.
