18 V regulation point and what it means for the bias rail

The 1N6006A zener clamps at 18 V nominal — this is the voltage the diode holds across its terminals when reverse-biased into breakdown. For a linear regulator front-end or a reference shunt, the 18 V rail stays within the ±10% tolerance band (16.2 V to 19.8 V) across the operating temperature range. Power dissipation is rated 500 mW maximum. In a simple shunt regulator, the series resistor must be sized so that the diode current times 18 V stays under 500 mW at the highest input voltage and lowest load current — otherwise the junction temperature climbs past the 175°C absolute maximum. Reverse leakage is 100 nA maximum at 11 V — two-thirds of the zener voltage. That low leakage means the diode does not load a high-impedance bias node until it reaches the breakdown knee, which is useful in micropower or battery-backed circuits.

DO-35 axial package — board-fit and assembly

The body diameter is roughly 2.0 mm with 0.5 mm diameter leads — it fits standard 0.8 mm to 1.0 mm PCB holes. Lead spacing is non-critical; the leads are formed at assembly. Bulk packaging means the diodes ship loose in a bag or tube — no tape-and-reel. For a pick-and-place line, this part requires a tube feeder or manual insertion; it is not reel-compatible. The -65°C to 175°C operating range covers military and industrial temperature extremes — avionics, downhole tools, or engine-bay electronics that see thermal cycling from cold soak to hot soak.
