16 V Zener — voltage reference and clamping
The 1N6005B is a 16 V Zener diode rated for 500 mW continuous power dissipation in a DO-35 axial-lead package. The ±5% tolerance on the nominal Zener voltage means it holds the regulation band to 15.2–16.8 V at the specified test current — tight enough for a supply rail clamp or a low-precision voltage reference in a bias network. Reverse leakage is just 100 nA at 12 V, so the diode draws negligible current below the Zener threshold — useful in battery-powered circuits where quiescent drain matters.
Microchip Technology lists the 1N6005B as obsolete. No official successor or pin-compatible replacement is recorded from the original manufacturer. For a BOM line that requires this exact Zener voltage and package, the DO-35 footprint is standard and a parametric substitute from another manufacturer may fit — but no direct cross-reference is maintained.
