The 1N6005A: The ±10% tolerance on Vz means the actual Zener voltage falls between 14.4 V and 17.6 V at the test current — wide enough for general-purpose clamping and voltage reference in circuits that do not require a tight regulation band. For precision references, a ±5% or ±2% grade would be a better fit.
Temperature range and dynamic impedance
Operating junction temperature spans -65°C to 175°C — military-grade range that covers avionics, downhole, and engine-bay applications where the ambient sees extremes. The 48 Ohms maximum Zener impedance (Zzt) at the test current is typical for a 16 V, 500 mW device; higher Zzt means the regulation voltage shifts more with current variation than a lower-impedance Zener would. Reverse leakage is specified at 100 nA maximum at 9.9 V — well below the Zener knee, so standby current in a voltage-clamp circuit stays negligible. Forward voltage is 1.1 V maximum at 200 mA, giving the diode a secondary role as a rectifier if needed, though the primary function is Zener regulation.
DO-35 axial — through-hole integration
The DO-204AH (DO-35) glass axial package measures roughly 0.166-inch body diameter with 1.0-inch lead length — standard for hand-insertion, wave-solder, or high-reliability socketing.
