Breakdown occurs at 485V minimum, and the clamping voltage is held to 698V maximum at the 2.1A peak pulse current. This 213V window between standoff and clamp means the diode absorbs transients without clipping the nominal rail, but the clamp voltage is high enough that downstream components must be rated for at least 700V peak.
