1.5SMC36C — 1500W bidirectional Zener TVS
It clamps at 53.4V maximum with a 30.8V reverse standoff voltage, making it suitable for protecting 24V or 28V DC rails from transients up to 30.5A peak pulse current. Breakdown occurs at a minimum of 32.4V, providing a guard band above the 30.8V standoff.
The 1.5SMC36C is marked Obsolete by Littelfuse. For a replacement in a new design, look at the same 1.5SMC series for a bidirectional part with the same standoff voltage range; the DO-214AB footprint is shared across the family, so a pin-compatible alternative exists if the voltage and power ratings match.
The copper pad area under the cathode tab (which on a bidirectional device is the common terminal) sets the thermal resistance — a larger pad lowers RthJA and allows the device to absorb more peak pulse energy before junction temperature reaches the 150°C limit. The 1.5SMC36C is supplied on Tape & Reel, suitable for automated pick-and-place assembly. No power line protection feature is claimed — the device is intended for signal or low-power rail clamping, not for mains AC line protection.
