1500W bidirectional TVS in DO-214AA
The 1.5SMB68CA: It clamps transients at 118.9V maximum when the surge current reaches 90.8A (8/20µs), protecting downstream silicon from lightning-induced or inductive kickback events on telecom line cards and base-station power feeds. The 58.1V reverse standoff voltage (working voltage) means the diode stays in high-impedance mode on a nominal 48V telecom bus with normal ripple, only conducting when the line exceeds the 64.6V minimum breakdown threshold. This margin prevents nuisance clamping while still catching the first volt of an overvoltage event.
Housed in the standard DO-214AA (SMB) package, the 1.5SMB68CA shares the same 0.208-inch body length and gull-wing footprint as the rest of the 1.5SMB family. The cathode band marking identifies the bidirectional orientation — the device conducts symmetrically, so polarity on the PCB silkscreen is cosmetic, not functional. Surface-mount assembly with the DO-214AA body suits reflow profiles typical for lead-free soldering. The junction operates from -65°C to 150°C, covering the full telecom outdoor cabinet temperature range without derating the peak pulse power at the cold end.
