1500W bidirectional Zener clamp for 30.8V rails
The 1.5SMB36CA: The breakdown voltage range starts at 34.2V minimum, ensuring the device stays transparent to the protected line until a transient exceeds the normal operating voltage.
Package and rework considerations
The copper pad area under the cathode tab sets the thermal resistance to ambient; a larger pad improves heat sinking during repetitive pulse events. The package is well-suited for rework under hot air. The body marking is clear enough to identify pin 1 orientation (cathode band) after reflow. No special bake-out is required for standard MSL levels, but the part should be handled per ESD precautions given the junction is exposed to the soldering profile.
The wide temperature margin also accounts for self-heating during repetitive clamping events. The device does not include power line protection features (no internal series element), so it is intended for parallel shunt clamping on signal or low-power DC rails, not for series fault interruption.
