Bulk capacitance on a 4 V rail — what the 330 µF and 100 mOhm ESR mean
The TPSX337K004R0100: The 100 mOhm ESR (equivalent series resistance) sets the ripple current handling and the self-heating under AC load. For a 100 kHz switching regulator output, that ESR contributes to the output ripple voltage — a 1 A ripple current through 100 mOhm gives 100 mV of ripple. Lower ESR would be better for high-frequency decoupling, but this value is typical for a 330 µF tantalum in a 2917 case.
Case size and board fit — 2917 (7343 Metric), 1.50 mm seated height
That is a low-profile bulk capacitor — it fits under a 2 mm board-to-board clearance or behind a low-height enclosure wall. The molded package has no exposed metal on the top, so it can sit under a heatsink or conformal coating without shorting risk. Surface-mount assembly with tape-and-reel packaging — the reel holds the parts for pick-and-place. The molded body is less moisture-sensitive than some chip tantalums, but standard MSL handling applies; store the reels dry if the seal is broken.
Temperature range and operating environment
Rated for -55 °C to +125 °C — full industrial temperature span. The capacitance and ESR will shift with temperature; expect capacitance to drop about 10-15 % at -55 °C and ESR to rise, which matters for filter cutoff stability.
