ESR and ripple — the loss parameter that matters
The 140 mOhm ESR at 100 kHz is the dominant loss term for this tantalum capacitor — it sets the self-heating under AC ripple current and the output voltage ripple on a switching regulator's bulk decoupling node. For a 33 µF cap at 16 V, 140 mOhm is a middle-grade ESR; lower-ESR variants exist in the TPS family if the ripple budget is tighter. Operating temperature spans -55°C to 125°C, so the ESR derating at the hot end follows the standard MnO2 tantalum curve — expect roughly 1.5× the 25°C value at 125°C. Budget this into the ripple current calculation for a 105°C or 125°C ambient rail.
Footprint and board-fit
2312 (6032 Metric) case, 6.00 x 3.20 mm footprint, 1.50 mm seated height — lands on a standard 6032 PCB land pattern. The W size code is AVX's internal marking for this case; the pad geometry follows the manufacturer's recommended layout in the TPS series application note. Molded epoxy case, compatible with reflow soldering profiles per J-STD-020.
