ESR and ripple current handling
The TPSV107M020R0085: An 85 mOhm ESR at 100 kHz means the capacitor dissipates I²R heat from ripple current. For a 1 A ripple component, the self-heating is about 85 mW — well within the package's dissipation capability at 85°C ambient, but the temperature rise doubles at 1.4 A ripple. The 2924 case's large anode surface helps spread that heat into the PCB copper. The ±20% tolerance is standard for tantalum electrolytics and acceptable for bulk decoupling where the exact capacitance is less critical than the ESR and voltage rating. For timing or filter circuits that need tighter capacitance, a different dielectric would be required.
