Parametric fit for power-rail decoupling
The TPSF686M016R0200: The 200 mOhm ESR keeps the self-heating under control at ripple frequencies, but it also means the capacitor contributes a zero in the output impedance loop; a downstream LDO or DC-DC with a low-bandwidth control loop may need an additional ceramic in parallel to push the zero higher. The -55°C to 125°C operating range covers industrial enclosures and automotive under-hood ambient without derating the voltage — the 16 V rating holds across the full temperature band, so no headroom calculation changes when the board sees 105°C in an engine bay.
Footprint and layout compatibility
The size code F means the same land pattern accepts AVX TPS, Kemet T491, and Vishay 293D series parts, so a BOM swap does not require a board spin as long as the ESR and voltage match the application. Molded construction gives a flat top and consistent standoff height, which helps with pick-and-place nozzle clearance and under-component cleaning. The package is compatible with reflow profiles up to 260°C peak per J-STD-020, though the tantalum anode limits the soak time above 230°C.
The TPS series is a long-running AVX line, so the risk of sudden obsolescence is low for a design going into production today.
