Bulk capacitance for power rails in hot environments
The TPSE477M010R0100V is a 470 µF molded tantalum capacitor in the TPS series, rated at 10 V with a 100 mOhm ESR at 100 kHz. The 100 mOhm ESR keeps ripple voltage in check on a DC/DC output or a battery-backed 3.3 V rail — the self-heating at rated ripple current stays low enough that the capacitor's 2000-hour lifetime at 125°C is the limiting factor, not the ESR.
The molded case stands up to pick-and-place handling and reflow without cracking, which is the failure mode on uncoated tantalums if the board bends. Tolerance is ±20%, standard for bulk tantalum — the capacitance at the low end (376 µF) still provides enough hold-up time for a 1 A load through a 10 ms brownout on a 5 V rail, assuming the regulator dropout is under 500 mV.
