The TPSD336M020R0100: The 100 mOhm ESR at 100 kHz is the spec that governs ripple current handling — lower ESR means the cap runs cooler under AC load, which matters when it's smoothing a switching regulator output or decoupling a power rail that sees high-frequency transients. The 2917 (7343 Metric) package with D case code is the standard footprint for this capacitance and voltage combination — it's the same size used across the TPS family for 33 µF/20 V, so a BOM swap to a different TPS D-case part keeps the same pad layout. Surface-mount assembly means it goes through reflow with the rest of the board; no hand-soldering on a production line.
Temperature range and what it means for the board
Rated -55°C to 125°C operating temperature, so it lives through the thermal cycling of an outdoor telecom enclosure or an engine-bay ECU without derating the voltage at the high end — tantalum caps typically hold full rated voltage up to 85°C and derate linearly above that; the 20 V rating at 125°C is still usable but the applied voltage should stay below 13 V for reliability margin per industry practice. The molded case is the standard epoxy encapsulation — no conformal coating needed for most environments, but if the board sees condensation or washdown, the cap itself is not sealed against moisture ingress the way a hermetic wet-tantalum would be.
