220 µF bulk decoupling with a 40 mOhm ESR floor
The TPSD227M010R0040 is a molded tantalum capacitor from KYOCERA AVX's TPS series, rated 220 µF at 10 V with a ±20 % tolerance and a 40 mOhm equivalent series resistance. The 40 mOhm ESR is the spec that drives the ripple-current rating — lower ESR means the capacitor can handle higher AC ripple without exceeding its self-heating limit, which is critical when it sits on a switching regulator output or a DC-DC converter input. The 10 V rating gives 50 % derating margin on a 5 V rail, the standard practice for tantalum capacitors to prevent inrush failure on power-up.
Full military temperature range — avionics and downhole ready
That means it can be deployed in avionics power supplies that see -55 °C cold-soak at altitude, or in downhole instrumentation where the ambient inside the tool exceeds 105 °C. The D case (2917 / 7343 metric) measures 7.30 mm x 4.30 mm with a seated height of 3.10 mm — a standard footprint for bulk tantalum decoupling on a multilayer PCB.
KYOCERA AVX lists the TPSD227M010R0040 as Active.
