Molded tantalum for high-reliability power rails
The molded case (EIA size D, 2917 footprint) provides mechanical stability and moisture resistance suitable for conformal-coated assemblies.
ESR and ripple current budget
At 300 mOhm ESR, the self-heating from ripple current is the limiting factor in the application. For a 100 kHz switching regulator output, the I²R loss at 1 A ripple is 0.3 W — the molded case dissipates this without exceeding the 125 °C ceiling when the board has adequate copper pour under the part. The ±20 % tolerance on capacitance means the actual ESR at the operating frequency may shift; the datasheet's impedance vs. frequency curve should be consulted for the specific ripple frequency.
