The TPSC685M025R0700 is a 6.8 µF molded tantalum capacitor from the KYOCERA AVX TPS series, rated at 25 V with ±20% tolerance and a 700 mOhm equivalent series resistance (ESR). Its molded case in the industry-standard C size (2312 / 6032 metric) makes it a drop-in replacement for many general-purpose tantalum capacitor positions on existing BOMs.
ESR and ripple current: the thermal budget
The 700 mOhm ESR is the dominant loss term; at the rated voltage and ripple current, the self-heating from ESR must stay within the 125°C ceiling to avoid derating. For a 6.8 µF cap on a 25 V rail, the ESR sets the ripple voltage amplitude — a lower ESR means less AC ripple on the output, which matters for sensitive analog or RF supply lines.
