22 µF, 16 V, 150 mOhm ESR — the ripple-current ceiling
The 150 mOhm ESR sets the ripple-current limit: at 100 kHz, the self-heating from ripple current is I² × ESR, so the allowable ripple current is roughly 1.2 A RMS before the part exceeds the 125°C max operating temperature. For a 5 V rail with 50 mV p-p ripple, this capacitor handles the output filter duty without exceeding its thermal budget.
At 125°C, the leakage current rises and the capacitance may drift by up to 10% from the 25°C value — budget this into the derating for a 3.3 V rail.
