Molded tantalum construction and fit on the board
The molded body gives consistent dimensions and good solder-joint visibility after reflow — the 3.50 mm x 2.80 mm footprint with 2.10 mm seated height fits standard pick-and-place nozzles and does not require special pad geometry beyond the datasheet land pattern. Rated 6.8 µF at 20 V with ±10% tolerance, the 1 ohm ESR is typical for a standard tantalum of this size.
The molded package handles the thermal expansion mismatch better than conformally coated parts over this span. The TPS series is marked General Purpose, so it lacks the surge-testing of automotive-grade parts. For an engine-bay or chassis-domain design, check whether the application requires AEC-Q200 qualification; this part does not carry that rating.
