What the ESR means for your power rail
The TPSB685K016R0600: 600 mOhm ESR at 100 kHz is the self-heating governor — for a 6.8 µF cap on a 16 V rail switching at a few hundred kHz, the ripple current that raises the internal temperature by 10 °C is roughly 400 mA RMS. That temperature rise adds to the ambient, so in a 105 °C environment the margin to the 125 °C ceiling narrows fast.
The part can sit on a satellite power bus, a downhole instrument board, or an outdoor telecom line card without a derating step. The molded case handles humidity better than a conformal-coated chip; no secondary seal needed.
