Capacitor selection for extreme thermal environments
The TPSB155M035R2500 is a molded tantalum capacitor in the TPS series from KYOCERA AVX, rated for 1.5 µF at 35 V with ±20% tolerance.
ESR and ripple current derating
With a 2.5 Ohm equivalent series resistance at 25°C, this capacitor's self-heating under ripple current must be considered. In a 35 V rail decoupling a switching converter, the ripple current through the ESR raises the internal temperature; the 125°C ceiling provides margin for derating, but the designer should calculate I²R heating against the ambient profile.
