680 µF, 4 V, 25 mΩ ESR — the bulk decoupling gate
The low ESR keeps ripple voltage under a few millivolts on a 4 V rail pulling a couple of amps — a POL converter output or a high-current ASIC supply where the bulk cap must absorb fast load transients without the rail dipping below the regulator's dropout.
2917 footprint, 3.1 mm seated height
The 2917 (7343 Metric) case measures 7.30 mm x 4.30 mm with a seated height of 3.10 mm max.
That puts it into avionics power supplies, downhole logging tools, and satellite bus filters where the ambient hits 105 °C and the self-heating from ripple current must stay inside the derating curve.
Active — no obsolescence watch needed
The TPM series is the current production molded tantalum family — the same case size, same capacitance range, same ESR grades as the earlier TPS, but with an active lifecycle that avoids a forced redesign.
