The 900 mOhm ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) is the key thermal parameter: at a given ripple current, the power dissipated as heat is I² × ESR. For a 1 A ripple current, that is 0.9 W — the 2917 (7343 Metric) package's thermal impedance must keep the core temperature below 125°C. If the ripple current is higher, either parallel caps or a lower-ESR part is needed.
The 125°C upper limit is the case temperature — the core must stay below this, so the ESR-driven self-heating must be included in the thermal budget.
