1 µF, 20 V — what this tantalum does on your board
The TAJS105M020Y: This is a 1 µF molded tantalum capacitor rated at 20 V, from the TAJ series by KYOCERA AVX. The ±20% tolerance is standard for tantalum electrolytics; the 20 V rating gives headroom for a 12 V rail or a lightly regulated 15 V bus. The 1206 (3216 metric) footprint is one of the most common chip sizes, and the S case code means a seated height of 1.20 mm max — it fits under low-profile components on a dense board. The 12 ohm ESR is a spec to watch: it limits ripple current handling. For a 1 µF part at 100 kHz, the impedance is dominated by the ESR, so this cap is better suited for bulk decoupling or filtering at lower frequencies than for high-frequency bypass.
