1 µF, 16 V, 20 Ohm ESR — decoupling and filtering fit
The 20 Ohm ESR is the key parameter for ripple voltage and power dissipation: in a 100 mA ripple application, the ESR contributes 2 V of ripple and 200 mW of self-heating, so derate the applied voltage and current accordingly. The 0805 case size (2.05 mm × 1.30 mm footprint) fits dense PCB layouts where board space is at a premium. The molded construction provides mechanical robustness and consistent dimensions for automated pick-and-place assembly.
The 16 V rating provides margin above typical 3.3 V and 5 V supply rails, but the 20 Ohm ESR limits ripple current at high temperature — budget derating per the manufacturer's application notes.
