6.8 µF at 50 V — the BOM-fit anchor
TAJD685M050RNJ is a Molded tantalum capacitor from the TAJ series, rated 6.8 µF at 50 V with ±20% tolerance. The 50 V rating gives headroom on a 24 V or 48 V rail — the derating rule of thumb (50% of rated voltage for tantalum) still leaves 25 V working voltage, which covers most industrial and telecom rails. The 2917 (7343 Metric) case measures 7.30 mm x 4.30 mm with a seated height of 3.10 mm — a standard footprint shared across many TAJ D-case parts, so a single PCB pad pattern serves multiple capacitance values.
1 Ohm ESR — the thermal and ripple ceiling
For a tantalum capacitor, the ripple current rating is derived from ESR and the maximum allowable internal temperature rise; a 1 Ohm ESR limits the ripple current to roughly 300 mA RMS before the part exceeds a 10°C internal rise. If your rail carries higher AC ripple, consider a lower-ESR polymer or multiple parallel parts. At the high end, ESR increases with temperature, so the ripple current derating at 125°C is steeper than at 25°C.
No pin-compatible replacement is needed; the same order code continues to ship.
