Molded tantalum for bulk decoupling and output filtering
The TAJD336K020ANJ is a 33 µF, 20 V molded tantalum capacitor in the TAJ series from KYOCERA AVX. This is a general-purpose molded tantalum — no low-ESR or automotive-grade screening. It is suited for bulk decoupling on power rails, output filtering in DC-DC converters, and energy storage in timing circuits where the ESR is acceptable.
At the ripple frequency of a typical 500 kHz to 2 MHz regulator, the ESR dominates the output voltage ripple more than the capacitance. Budget roughly 90 mV ripple per amp of ripple current — if the load step draws 2 A, expect 180 mV of ripple before the regulator loop corrects. The 2000-hour endurance at 125°C is the accelerated life test condition. At lower ambient temperatures the useful life extends significantly — derating the applied voltage to 80% of rated (16 V) further improves reliability in high-temp environments like an engine bay or industrial enclosure.
