ESR and the thermal budget on a power rail
The TAJC476K016H: A 47 µF tantalum at 16 V with 500 mOhm ESR — the ESR is the thermal bottleneck in a power rail filter. For a given ripple current, the I²R heating in the capacitor raises the internal temperature above ambient; at 125 °C the derating curve starts eating into the voltage margin. Stack the ripple current against the ESR before committing the BOM line.
The 16 V rating at 125 °C is derated from the 25 °C rating; confirm the applied voltage stays below 50% of rated at the high end for reliability.
The TAJ series is a broad molded tantalum line; this C-case (2312 / 6032 metric) is a common footprint.
