Capacitance, voltage, and ESR — the fit decision
The 3.5 Ohm ESR is the spec that matters most for ripple current: at 16 V and 4.7 µF, the self-heating from ripple current through that ESR will dominate the thermal budget in a switching supply output filter. Plan for 3.8 µF effective at 16 V if you are sizing a hold-up cap.
