Voltage derating — the 50% rule for tantalum
A 10 V rated tantalum should never see more than 5 V DC steady-state bias to avoid field failure from dielectric breakdown. The 2.4 Ohm ESR at 100 kHz means the ripple current self-heats the part — at 125°C ambient the ripple must be derated further per the manufacturer's curve. The 2000-hour endurance at 125°C is the accelerated life test condition; actual service life at 85°C with proper derating is typically 10× longer.
