Automotive-grade molded tantalum for engine-bay and cabin electronics
The TAJB155K025TNJV: This is a molded tantalum capacitor from the TAJ series, rated 1.5 µF at 25 V with ±10% tolerance. The 2000-hour endurance at 125°C is the thermal budget for continuous operation in an engine bay or near a hot exhaust manifold. If your ambient is below 105°C, the derating curve gives you margin; at 125°C, you are running at the rated limit.
ESR, ripple current, and decoupling trade-offs
The 5-ohm ESR at 100 kHz is typical for a B-case tantalum at this capacitance and voltage. It limits the ripple current to roughly 200 mA RMS before self-heating becomes significant — fine for decoupling a small load or filtering a low-power rail, but not for high-ripple bulk storage. For a 25 V rail, the 1.5 µF capacitance and 5-ohm ESR produce a self-resonant frequency around 1.8 MHz. Above that the capacitor behaves inductively, so place it close to the load and pair it with a lower-ESR ceramic for high-frequency bypass.
