2.1 Ohm ESR — ripple current and self-heating budget
For a typical 100 kHz switching regulator output, the RMS ripple current should stay below approximately 200 mA to keep internal temperature rise within the datasheet limits. Higher ripple requires a lower-ESR part or a larger case size. The ESR also contributes to output voltage ripple; a 100 mA ripple current through 2.1 Ohm produces 210 mV of ripple, which may need additional post-filtering for noise-sensitive loads.
