Capacitance, voltage, and ESR — the BOM-fit numbers
The TAJB106K025HNJ is a 10 µF, 25 V rated tantalum capacitor in the molded TAJ series from KYOCERA AVX. The ±10% tolerance means the actual capacitance at 25 V bias stays between 9 µF and 11 µF — tight enough for decoupling and timing circuits where the nominal value matters. ESR is 2.5 Ohm at 100 kHz — this is the loss term that determines ripple current capability and self-heating. In a 100 kHz buck converter output filter, that ESR contributes about 25 mV of ripple per amp of ripple current, which is typical for a B-case tantalum.
Temperature range and lifetime — where it survives
Lifetime is 2000 hours at 125°C with rated voltage applied. Derate the voltage or reduce the ambient temperature and the useful life extends significantly — at 85°C and 50% derating, typical service life exceeds 10 years in continuous operation.
