Molded tantalum for wide-temp bulk storage
The TAJA685K010RNJ is a Molded tantalum capacitor from the TAJ series, rated 6.8 µF at 10 V with ±10% tolerance — a standard bulk-value part for decoupling and filtering on 3.3 V or 5 V rails. The 1206 (3216 Metric) case fits a 3.20 mm × 1.60 mm footprint; seated height is 1.80 mm max, which clears most 2 mm board-to-board spacing constraints.
ESR and ripple current budget
Equivalent series resistance is 4 Ohm at 100 kHz — relatively high for a 6.8 µF tantalum, which means self-heating under ripple current limits the usable AC load. For a 5 V rail with 100 mV pk-pk ripple, the ripple current is about 25 mA; the internal temperature rise stays under 10°C. At 125°C the ESR can double from the 25°C baseline, narrowing the ripple margin further. Derate the ripple current by 50% above 85°C if the application runs continuous AC.
