Why the 6.3 V rating matters for your rail
The TAJA336K006RNJ: A 33 µF tantalum capacitor rated at 6.3 V means the maximum continuous DC voltage across the terminals is 6.3 V. For a 3.3 V or 5 V supply rail, this gives a derating margin of roughly 50% or 20% respectively — tantalum capacitors are voltage-sensitive, and running them near the rated voltage accelerates failure due to dielectric breakdown. The 2.2 Ohm ESR sets the ripple current limit: at 85°C ambient, the part can handle about 0.3 A ripple before self-heating becomes a concern. This is not a high-ripple part; it is a bulk decoupling or filter cap for low-ripple DC rails.
A 125°C ceiling means this cap can sit next to a hot power transistor or in an engine-bay ECU without derating the temperature spec — though the ripple current capability does derate above 85°C. The 1206 case is a common footprint for low-profile designs; the 1.80 mm seated height fits standard 1.6 mm PCB thickness with clearance.
