Molded tantalum for 10 V rails — what the ratings tell you
The TAJA226K010SNJ: This is a KYOCERA AVX TAJ-series molded tantalum capacitor, 22 µF ±10% with a 10 V rating in the 1206 case. The molded construction means the anode and cathode terminations are fully encapsulated — no conformal coat needed, and the part survives standard reflow without cracking. The 1206 footprint (3.20 mm x 1.60 mm) is a common size; the 1.80 mm seated height clears most low-profile constraints.
Temperature grade and lifetime — hot-environment fit
That 2000-hour number is the endurance under full rated voltage and temperature — in practice, running at 85°C with a 50% voltage derating extends life well beyond the spec. For a board that sees 105°C in an engine bay or industrial enclosure, the 125°C ceiling gives margin. The 10 V rating on a 5 V rail leaves 50% derating, which is the standard practice for tantalum reliability — no voltage surge risk, no field failure from inrush.
