Product details

1500W bidirectional TVS for 18V rails

It clamps both polarities from a single device, which saves board space on AC or bipolar signal lines compared to back-to-back unidirectional parts. Reverse standoff voltage is 18V, with a minimum breakdown of 20V and a maximum clamping voltage of 29.2V at the peak pulse current of 51.4A.

DO-214AB (SMC) package — field-swappable with hot air

It is large enough to hand-place with tweezers and reflow with a hot-air station — no lab bench required for a field swap. The package marking is legible under a loupe, so orientation (cathode band for unidirectional; bidirectional has no band) is clear. Surface-mount only — no through-hole option in this series.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between SMCJ18CA and SMCJ18A?

The SMCJ18CA is bidirectional (clamps both polarities), while the SMCJ18A is unidirectional (clamps one polarity, cathode band marked). All other ratings — 1500W peak pulse, 18V standoff, 20V breakdown, 29.2V clamping — are identical. Choose the CA for AC or bipolar signal lines; choose the A for DC rails where polarity is fixed.

Is SMCJ18CA bidirectional or unidirectional?

Bidirectional — one channel, clamps both positive and negative transients. No cathode band marking on the package.
