That ESR figure is the key parameter for pulse-power applications: at 500 F, a 1 mOhm ESR gives a time constant of 0.5 seconds, meaning the cell can deliver high current bursts without significant resistive heating. The 2.7 V rated voltage is the standard ceiling for aqueous-electrolyte carbon supercapacitors; running at 2.5 V or lower extends lifetime beyond the 1000 hours at 60°C spec, but the full 2.7 V is usable within the -40°C to 65°C operating range.
Chassis mount with weld stud termination — what it connects to
The radial can package (1.378" diameter, 3.346" seated height) terminates in weld studs — this is not a snap-in or screw terminal. The weld studs are intended for busbar or heavy-gauge cable welding, not for PCB insertion. Mounting is chassis mount, meaning the can is clamped or bracketed to a panel, and the electrical connection is made via welded or bolted lugs to the studs. The bulk package means the part ships loose in a tube or tray, not taped and reeled — relevant for manual assembly or low-volume production runs.
The 0%, +100% tolerance on capacitance is typical for supercapacitors — the cell will never be below 500 F, but can be up to 1000 F. For energy-budget calculations, use the nominal 500 F as the floor; the actual capacity will be higher, which only improves hold-up time. The 1000-hour lifetime at 60°C is the accelerated test condition; at 40°C ambient, the expected life roughly doubles per 10°C drop, giving several thousand hours in typical indoor environments. The 1 mOhm ESR at 1 kHz is the AC measurement; DC ESR will be slightly higher, but still in the low milliohm range. This low ESR makes the part suitable for applications like UPS ride-through, peak-power assist in motor drives, or energy harvesting buffers where the internal resistance would otherwise limit the discharge current.
