22 F energy storage for backup and hold-up circuits
The SCCT35E226SRB is a 22 F supercapacitor from KYOCERA AVX's SCC series, rated at 3 V in a radial can through-hole package. At 22 F and 3 V, the stored energy is just under 100 J — enough to hold up a microcontroller or RTC through a brief mains dropout, or to supply peak current bursts that the main supply cannot source directly. The -10% to +30% tolerance means the actual capacitance at shipment is guaranteed to be at least 19.8 F and may reach 28.6 F — the upside matters for hold-up time calculations; design the minimum hold-up budget at the -10% floor, not the nominal 22 F.
Temperature and lifetime ceiling
Rated lifetime is 2000 hours at 65°C — the standard endurance figure for aqueous-electrolyte supercapacitors. Below 65°C the lifetime roughly doubles for every 10°C drop, so at 45°C the expected life is about 8000 hours, and at room temperature (25°C) it extends well beyond 20,000 hours. The -40°C to 65°C operating range limits this part to indoor, conditioned environments; it does not suit automotive under-hood or outdoor enclosures exposed to direct sun.
Board footprint and mounting
Radial can, 12.5 mm diameter, 36.5 mm seated height, with 5.5 mm lead spacing. The through-hole pins suit standard 0.100-inch pitch prototyping boards and wave-solder assembly. The 12.5 mm can diameter is a common supercapacitor form factor — the PCB footprint matches many 12.5 mm radial electrolytic capacitors, so layout reuse across suppliers is straightforward. Bulk packaging — tubes or loose trays per the manufacturer's standard. No tape-and-reel option for this radial can size; the leads are not formed for SMT.
