The SCCT30B156SRB is a 15 F, 2.7 V supercapacitor from the KYOCERA AVX SCC series, packaged in a through-hole radial can with PC pins. Its 35 mOhm ESR at 1 kHz keeps charge/discharge losses low, making it suited for short-duration backup, power-ride-through, or peak-current buffering in low-voltage DC rails.
ESR and lifetime — the thermal budget drivers
The 35 mOhm ESR at 1 kHz sets the I²R heating during charge/discharge cycles. In a 2 A pulse, the internal dissipation is 140 mW — this heat accumulates inside the can and accelerates aging. The rated lifetime is 1000 hours at 60°C; every 10°C above 60°C roughly halves that figure, so keeping the ambient below 50°C extends service life well beyond the rated endurance.
Through-hole radial — board-fit and layout note
Lead spacing is 0.217" (5.50 mm), matching standard 5 mm pitch PCB layouts. The PC pin termination requires plated through-holes sized for the pin diameter; the can body should be secured with a dab of adhesive or a clip in high-vibration environments.
