Product details

7 F, 3 V — energy buffer for short-duration backup

The KYOCERA AVX SCCS25E705PRB is a 7 F supercapacitor rated at 3 V, part of the SCC series. Its 60 mOhm ESR at 1 kHz means the internal resistance is low enough to deliver the stored charge quickly — think RTC backup, power-fail hold-up, or pulse-current assist in a metering or IoT endpoint where the 7 F capacitance bridges a few seconds of mains dropout. The radial can package with 0.217" (5.50 mm) lead spacing and PC pin termination fits a standard through-hole layout — no special press-fit or tab-welding tooling needed. Rated lifetime is 1000 hours at 60°C; in a 40°C ambient the useful life extends well beyond that per the Arrhenius acceleration typical for aqueous-electrolyte supercaps.

ESR and temperature — the two numbers that govern real discharge

60 mOhm ESR at 1 kHz is the AC impedance at that frequency — for a DC hold-up event the effective series resistance is slightly higher but still under 100 mOhm. That keeps the IR drop at the start of discharge below 0.7 V at a 10 A pulse, leaving over 2.3 V usable from the 3 V rail. Operating temperature spans -40°C to 65°C. Below 0°C the ESR rises noticeably — expect roughly 2× at -20°C and 4× at -40°C — so the usable pulse current drops in cold environments. The lifetime rating of 1000 hours at 60°C assumes the full rated voltage; derating to 2.5 V doubles that life at the same temperature.

Active production — sourced through distribution

The 0%, +100% tolerance on the 7 F capacitance means the actual value can land anywhere from 7 F to 14 F. A BOM that assumes 7 F minimum should hold; one that needs tight capacitance matching across units may need a different tolerance grade or binning.
