What the MAX II family brings to the board
The Intel EPM1270T144I5N is a MAX® II CPLD with 1270 logic elements and 980 macrocells — the largest density in the MAX II instant-on family. It is in-system programmable (ISP), so you can reflash it on the assembled board without a separate programmer, and it powers up in microseconds with no external configuration memory. The 6.2 ns pin-to-pin delay (tpd1) means combinatorial logic paths settle within one clock cycle at moderate frequencies — useful for glue logic, address decoding, or state machines that need to keep up with a 100 MHz+ system bus without adding pipeline stages.
Parametric fit: macrocells, I/O, and supply rails
With 116 user I/O in a 144-LQFP (20x20 mm body), the EPM1270T144I5N gives you enough pins to interface a wide parallel bus alongside control signals — think a 16-bit data bus plus address lines and handshake, with room left for status LEDs or a debug header.
