Automotive battery-balancing IC for 1–12 series Li-ion cells
The Infineon TLE9012DQUXUMA1 is a battery-balancing IC designed for automotive lithium-ion and lithium-polymer battery packs. It handles 1 to 12 series cells, communicates over a UART interface, and integrates fault protection for overcurrent, over/under voltage, and short-circuit conditions. It comes in a 48-pin TQFP with exposed pad (PG-TQFP-48-9) for surface-mount assembly.
150°C junction rating and AEC-Q100 — qualification scope
The 150°C junction temperature rating places this part in the high-temperature tier for automotive battery-management ICs. Tier-one ECU programs targeting under-hood or directly-on-battery-module mounting should verify the thermal derating curve against the actual power dissipation at 150°C ambient. AEC-Q100 qualification means the part has passed the full stress suite (HTOL, HBM, CDM, latch-up, temperature cycling) required for production release in automotive safety-relevant systems.
Fault protection set and UART interface — BOM simplification
The integrated overcurrent, over/under voltage, and short-circuit protection reduces the need for external comparators, voltage supervisors, and discrete monitoring logic. For a 12-cell pack, this can save several passives and a supervisor IC per cell group. The UART interface allows daisy-chaining multiple TLE9012DQUXUMA1 devices with a single microcontroller UART port, simplifying the isolation and wiring topology in a multi-module battery stack.
Package and footprint — PG-TQFP-48-9
The package is surface-mount only, compatible with standard reflow profiles for lead-free solder per ROHS3 compliance.
