Fixed 5V rail for automotive and industrial loads
It delivers up to 400 mA continuous output and accepts an input voltage up to 40V, giving it headroom for 12V and 24V battery systems with load-dump transients. Protection features include over current, over temperature, reverse polarity, and short circuit, which reduce the need for external clamp or crowbar circuits.
Package and mounting — TO-263-5 (D²Pak)
The part comes in a TO-263-6 package (5 leads plus tab), also designated as D²Pak. It is a surface-mount package with a large exposed tab for heat sinking. The supplier device package is TO-263-5. The tab is electrically connected to ground (output ground), so PCB layout should use a sufficient copper area on the tab pad to keep junction temperature within limits at full load and high ambient.
