512 Mbit parallel NOR Flash for code-shadowing and XIP
The Infineon (Cypress) S29GL512S11FHI020 is a 512 Mbit parallel NOR Flash memory from the GL-S family, organized as 32M x 16 bits. It delivers a 110 ns access time over a parallel interface, making it a fit for execute-in-place (XIP) firmware storage and high-reliability code-shadowing in industrial and telecom equipment.
At 110 ns access time, this part is fast enough for most 8/16-bit microcontroller and FPGA boot memories that run below 9 MHz bus clocks. If your system uses a higher-speed synchronous memory controller, check whether the controller's read cycle time can accommodate the 110 ns window — otherwise you'll insert wait states or need a faster part. The parallel interface uses a full address/data bus, so board layout must manage trace lengths and capacitive loading to maintain the timing budget.
Industrial temperature grade and environment
The 2.7 V minimum supply gives headroom for 3.3 V rails that droop under load — a common scenario in 24 V industrial systems with a local LDO. If your design lives in a -40°C to 105°C environment, look at the GL-T variant (S29GL512T11TFIV20) which extends the temperature ceiling.
The GL-S series remains a current product line from Infineon (formerly Cypress), with ongoing manufacturing support.
Tray packaging — verify feeder setup
If your pick-and-place line is configured for tape feeders, you will need a tray feeder or a manual placement step.
