16 Mbit parallel NOR Flash for industrial-temperature designs
The Infineon S29AL016J70TFN013 is a 16 Mbit parallel NOR Flash memory from the AL-J series, organized as 2M x 8 or 1M x 16 with a 70 ns access time. The 48-TSOP surface-mount package keeps the board footprint compact while allowing straightforward rework with standard hot-air profiles.
A 70 ns access time means the memory can deliver random read data within 70 ns of the address transition, which translates to roughly a 14 MHz sustained random-read rate. For an MCU running at 48 MHz with zero-wait-state SRAM, this Flash will typically require a small number of wait states on the parallel bus — the exact count depends on the controller's clock period. The 70 ns write cycle time (word or page) means firmware updates over a slow SPI or UART pipe are gated by the erase/write algorithm, not the bus timing.
The ROHS3 compliance simplifies EU market use without exemption tracking.
Configurable bus width — 8-bit or 16-bit
The memory organization of 2M x 8 or 1M x 16 lets the designer match the bus width to the host controller without external byte-lane muxing. An 8-bit MCU reads the full 2 Mbyte array; a 16-bit controller gets 1 Mword with a single access per word. The BYTE# pin selects the mode at power-up, and the parallel interface handles the rest.
