80 MHz Quad I/O — what it means for read throughput
The S25FL256SDSMFBG10: The 80 MHz clock rate with Quad I/O (four data lines) delivers a sustained read throughput of 320 Mbps in Fast Read Quad I/O mode. That is enough to feed an execute-in-place (XIP) firmware image from the flash without a shadow copy to RAM, provided the host controller supports Quad I/O. For designs still using standard SPI (single data line), the same 80 MHz clock yields 80 Mbps — a factor-of-four difference that matters when sizing the boot time budget.
AEC-Q100 qualification and the 105°C ceiling
The 105°C maximum operating temperature covers under-hood and cabin-mounted electronics in passenger vehicles, as well as industrial equipment with ambient temperatures up to 85°C plus self-heating. The 2.7 V minimum supply ensures compatibility with 3.3 V rails that may dip during cold crank or battery discharge events.
For a production BOM, this removes the obsolescence risk that haunts older NOR Flash densities.
