That clock rate translates to a read throughput around 66 MB/s in quad mode — enough to feed a high-end MCU or FPGA configuration engine without stalling.
At 133 MHz in quad-I/O mode, the S25FL256SAGMFI000 can sustain a read throughput that keeps a Cortex-M7 or a mid-range FPGA configuration controller fed without wait states. The SPI interface is standard — any MCU with a quad-SPI peripheral can drive it. The 256 Mbit density (organized as 32M x 8) gives you 32 MB of code or data storage, which is a common size for firmware images with OTA staging, bootloaders, and file-system partitions. The erase granularity (typically 4 KB and 64 KB sectors on this family) matters when you size the OTA staging area — the smaller sector size reduces write amplification for frequent small updates.
